The main objective of the SMARTMould@Footwear project is to develop a hybrid mold with adaptive cavities for the footwear industry. By the end of this project, the goal is to have a mold that allows for the production of different sizes and styles of soles, thereby promoting sustainability by reducing the number of molds required. The fact that this mold can adapt to different geometries also helps meet the demand for customized footwear. In addition to the mold’s hybrid, adaptive capabilities, the project also aims to utilize digital tools—such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Additive Manufacturing (AM)—to accelerate and increase the flexibility of mold production and, ultimately, footwear production through direct-to-cut injection molding processes.
